You can workout for hours everyday, but if you are eating more calories than you are expending, you will gain weight. Calories consumed — calories expended = weight gained or lost. 

Strict diets (low fat, low carb, keto etc) try to tackle calories consumed. For some this works for a few days, weeks, months.. but then most revert to their old ways. 

Diets are restrictive and there isn't one diet that fits everyone. Going on a 'diet' is the wrong mentality. You should aim for an approach that fits your lifestyle - ex: eating the types of food you enjoy in the right quantities.
